Powerview / Pine Falls

The twin towns of Powerview – Pine Falls are located in eastern Manitoba on the banks of the Winnipeg River, approximately 130 kilometers northeast of the city of Winnipeg. With just under 1,400 residents, the two towns have a history that dates back to the era of the fur trade over two hundred years ago. The early communities of Powerview – Pine Falls began to flourish at the beginning of the 20th century, when they started to harness the potential of both the forestry and hydroelectric industries, as they are located in a region covered with the dense forests and wild rivers of the boreal forest. These two activities still form the industrial backbone of the region thanks to the ongoing presence of Tembec Industries Inc. (pulp and paper) and Manitoba Hydro.

There is a wide range of professional and commercial services available in Powerview – Pine Falls, including a thriving service industry with several restaurants and motels to accommodate residents as well as the many visitors to the area. Residents can also count on a full range of municipal services and the community also has access to the Pine Falls Health Complex, a 23-bed inpatient facility with 24-hour emergency services which also includes a 20-bed personal care home.

The Powerview – Pine Falls area is also a very popular tourism and recreation destination, since it is located on the Winnipeg River in close proximity to the beaches and cottage country of nearby Lake Winnipeg. In the fall, the 4P Festival (“Paper, Pea, Power & Pickerel”) attracts throngs of visitors to the community during the September labour day long weekend, as does the annual Canadian Walleye Championship, one of Canada’s premier fishing tournaments which is held on the Winnipeg River in October.
