On January 1, 2027, 70 years after its founding, T\u00e9trault Transport will change ownership. But there is no need to worry, the name will remain the same, as the company will be passed on to another T\u00e9trault!<\/p>\n

Since 1957, T\u00e9trault Transport has been passed down from one generation to the next. Its founder, G\u00e9rard T\u00e9trault, sold the company to his son, Gilbert, in 1975, who in turn sold it to his son, R\u00e9al, in 1995. Today, it is not R\u00e9al T\u00e9trault\u2019s son who is taking over the business, but rather his younger cousin, Patrick T\u00e9trault, who will assume the reins alongside his business partner, Viktor Frank.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Dairy Transportation Specialist<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Today, T\u00e9trault Transport specializes in bulk milk transportation. However, that was not always the case. \u201cWhen my grandfather started T\u00e9trault Transport 70 years ago, we hauled all kinds of goods, including livestock,\u201d recalls R\u00e9al T\u00e9trault. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t until 1987 that we focused exclusively on milk. Since then, milk is all we transport.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patrick T\u00e9trault explains that milk transportation is \u201ca highly regulated industry. We have specific routes and designated clients. It\u2019s not a free market.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The number of dairy producers served by T\u00e9trault Transport has fluctuated over the years. When Gilbert T\u00e9trault purchased the company in 1975, it operated just two trucks. He added eight more to the fleet. As a result, T\u00e9trault Transport grew from three or four employees to 17, and from serving between 20 and 40 producers to approximately 250.<\/p>\n

When R\u00e9al T\u00e9trault took over in 1995, T\u00e9trault Transport was collecting milk from about 100 producers across southeastern Manitoba. By 2026, that number had dropped to just 24 producers, \u201cbut the farms are much larger,\u201d he points out. \u201cWe collect more than 6 million litres of milk every month with five trucks, all within the southeastern Manitoba region around La Broquerie.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This represents roughly 15% of the total milk produced in the province, a figure that has remained relatively stable. From southeastern Manitoba, T\u00e9trault Transport delivers milk to cheese-making and dairy processing facilities, including plants in New Bothwell, Grunthal, and Winnipeg.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe way milk is transported has changed dramatically over the years,\u201d adds R\u00e9al T\u00e9trault. \u201cIn the early days, milk was carried by hand in milk cans and loaded onto flatbed trucks. Today, we use large insulated tanker trailers that carry milk in bulk, and we collect it directly from farms using hoses.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Company with a Proven Track Record<\/strong><\/h3>\n

R\u00e9al T\u00e9trault says it proudly: \u201cWe are very punctual, which our customers really appreciate. When we arrive at a farm, it\u2019s almost like clockwork. They know what time it is because we\u2019re there!\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition, T\u00e9trault Transport provides service 365 days a year, \u201cregardless of weather conditions,\u201d emphasizes Patrick T\u00e9trault.<\/p>\n

Over the years, T\u00e9trault Transport has received several awards recognizing its excellence, including the CDEM Excellence Award – Pioneer in Francophone Manitoba Entrepreneurship, presented to G\u00e9rard T\u00e9trault in 2003, and the Manitoba Trucking Association – Omnitracs Distinguished Member Award in 2021.<\/p>\n

The Family Tradition Continues<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Today, Patrick T\u00e9trault is set to become the new co-owner, alongside Viktor Frank, of the 70-year-old family business.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was important to me because dairy production is a significant part of La Broquerie\u2019s identity. There\u2019s a reason there\u2019s a cow statue in La Broquerie. For many years, this region was the largest milk-producing area in Manitoba!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cAnd throughout all those years, our family has played a key role in the industry. T\u00e9trault Transport is the first and only milk transportation company in La Broquerie. I didn\u2019t want to see that come to an end. It\u2019s an honour for me to carry on what my grandfather started, even though those are very big shoes to fill.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for the future, Patrick T\u00e9trault is already looking ahead, with guidance from his cousin R\u00e9al. \u201cToday, there\u2019s a very real possibility that milk will need to be transported beyond Manitoba. I\u2019m neither equipped for nor interested in doing that,\u201d R\u00e9al admits. \u201cBut Patrick has what it takes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Infact, Patrick T\u00e9trault currently serves as President of One Call Logistics, with Viktor Frank as Vice-President. \u201cT\u00e9trault Transport could subcontract One Call Logistics for out-of-province shipments,\u201d he explains. \u201cOne Call Logistics operates a fleet of 30 trucks.<\/div>\n
\n

\u201cOnce we have officially acquired T\u00e9trault Transport, I plan to meet with Dairy Farmers of Manitoba, the organization that coordinates Manitoba\u2019s dairy market, to learn more about their transportation needs. From there, T\u00e9trault Transport may begin hauling milk and cream to Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

At the same time, while the two companies will remain clearly separate entities, T\u00e9trault Transport will be able to benefit from the resources and expertise of One Call Logistics. \u201cWe already have a health and safety committee in place, for example, which T\u00e9trault Transport does not currently have because it is a smaller company,\u201d says the future owner.<\/p>\n
