Less Than Two Weeks to Land a Job<\/span>\u00a0in Manitoba!<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n

The Oumeziane family arrived in Winnipeg from<\/span>\u00a0Algeria on November 27, 2020. It has been for them a<\/span>\u00a0perfectly successful immigration\u00a0<\/span>experience<\/span>, despite the exceptional circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>mmigration\u00a0<\/span>P<\/span>roject\u00a0<\/span>C<\/span>arefully\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>hought<\/span>\u00a0Out<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n

Chemseddine Oumeziane, the\u00a0<\/span>family\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>father, explains the genesis of his family’s immigration to Manitoba: “Our immigration project has been thought out for a long time.\u00a0<\/span>My wife and I<\/span>\u00a0are<\/span>\u00a0both Algerians. We had made a life for us there, we had jobs<\/span>. But there came a time in our lives when we\u00a0<\/span>longed to be somewhere else<\/span>. “With my wife, we traveled a lot. After discovering several different countries, the idea of expatriation did not take long to make its way in<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0our minds”<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With this in mind<\/span>, the<\/span>\u00a0couple spends a lot of time\u00a0<\/span>putting their project in motion<\/span>. “We had a situation in Algeria, and children, so we couldn’t leave without thinking<\/span>\u00a0it through<\/span>,” says Chemseddine Oumeziane.\u00a0<\/span>“<\/span>My wife and I\u00a0<\/span>first\u00a0<\/span>researched<\/span>\u00a0the countries we\u00a0<\/span>were interested in<\/span>. We made a lot of comparisons, and finally decided on Canada<\/span>“<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Seduced by\u00a0<\/span>Manitoba<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n

The choice of\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>country was only the first step. Now the couple had to decide\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0which part of Canada\u00a0<\/span>they would take the family.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“That’s what took us the longest. We did a lot of research. We compared the differen<\/span>t provinces. F<\/span>irst, we eliminated Quebec because we wanted to move to a predominantly English-speaking prov<\/span>ince for our children. I\u00a0<\/span>speak French and English, and I think\u00a0<\/span>it’s<\/span>\u00a0important for my children to be able to learn both languages.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“We were very attracted to Ontario, especially Ottawa and Toronto. But when we did more research, we realized that it\u00a0<\/span>didn\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0really fit<\/span>\u00a0us. We wanted something else.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“That’s when we looked\u00a0<\/span>more in depth into<\/span>\u00a0Manitoba. We found that the quality of life looked better, and\u00a0<\/span>more importantly<\/span>\u00a0that the unemployment rate was quite low for bilingual people<\/span>“<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Inde<\/span>ed, while quality of life was a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>key element\u00a0<\/span>for the couple, the possibility of finding a job quickly was also rather reassuring. “We had savings, but with a family, we couldn’t afford to be out of work for a long time<\/span>“<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Even before coming to Canada, the\u00a0<\/span>family\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>father, who had been a<\/span>n<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>indirect sales senior manager for 16 years<\/span>\u00a0in a multinational company based in Algeria, had been learning about the Manitoba<\/span>n<\/span>\u00a0labour\u00a0market.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I knew I\u00a0<\/span>wouldn\u2019t be able to<\/span>\u00a0get a job like the one I had in Algeria. I had to lower my\u00a0<\/span>expectations<\/span>\u00a0and then move up the ladder. But I didn’t have a problem with that<\/span>“<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To optimize his<\/span>\u00a0chances of getting a job quickly, Chemseddine Oumeziane turned to the CDEM. “The CDEM helped me a lot. They gave me tips for interviews, they reviewed my\u00a0<\/span>resume<\/span>\u00a0so that it met Canadian standards. That reassured me a lot.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“And I was very lucky. Within 15 days of arriving in Winnipeg, I had landed a job! I\u00a0<\/span>didn’t<\/span>\u00a0think it would happen so\u00a0<\/span>fast<\/span>. I’m really happy that I was able to find a job so quickly<\/span>“<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chemseddine Oumeziane is currently working as\u00a0<\/span>a customer service s<\/span>upervisor at the 24-7 In<\/span>t<\/span>ouch Inc. call center.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the key to his<\/span>\u00a0success? Think positive and adapt. “I had a very detailed action plan for my arrival and job search, but I didn’t hesitate to modify it<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in order to<\/span>\u00a0find a job. I believe<\/span>\u00a0if you think positive, you<\/span>\u2019ll<\/span>\u00a0see success coming.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\"\"<\/p>\n
