\u00c9lise Page always dreamed about going into business. \u201cThat dream goes back a long way. At school, maybe grade 5 or 6, we had to draw a picture of our parents. I made one of my father, a businessman. He was so proud to tell me about what he did. That\u2019s when I knew that I also wanted to become a business owner.\u201d<\/p>\n
After graduating in dance from the University of Manitoba, \u00c9lise Page continued in that field and put aside her childhood dream. But later, before her first pregnancy, the young woman joined her father\u2019s business. \u201cI liked working with my father. I found it rewarding.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her maternity leave gave Page some time to think. \u201cI was always very busy, often juggling several jobs. But during my maternity leave, I took the time to further explore my dream of opening a caf\u00e9.\u201d<\/p>\n
That project took on a prominent place in \u00c9lise Page\u2019s life. \u201cI started looking for a business partner. Last year, I was discussing my idea with Teri-Lynn Friesen, and she told me that\u00a0her<\/em>\u00a0dream was to sell ice cream. I told her that was number two on\u00a0my<\/em>\u00a0wish list! We immediately thought that it would be great to embark on the adventure together.\u201d<\/p>\n The two women decided to combine their dreams of coffee and ice cream. \u201cWe can sell both. It will add a special touch to our business.\u201d<\/p>\n Unlike Teri-Lynn, \u00c9lise does not have much business experience, so the partners complement each other well. \u201cI work on the financial side of things, and Teri-Lynn handles the marketing.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00c9lise and Teri-Lynn also received support from the University of Manitoba to make their project a reality. \u201cWe were really lucky. We were able to use the professional kitchens at University of Manitoba for our training. We needed to do some testing to figure out what recipes we wanted to use.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cThe advantage of the University of Manitoba\u2019s kitchens is that we could get used to working with professional machines, and we could test exactly what we are going to do in our own kitchens.\u201d<\/p>\n After a lot of tests, \u00c9lise Page and Teri-Lynn Friesen finally landed on the basic recipe that they both liked. Says Page: \u201cI really didn\u2019t know much about ice cream before we started. But I had one requirement: I wanted to use all-natural products with no chemicals. Our base had no artificial stabilizers, and most of our flavors don\u2019t as well. \u00bb<\/p>\n The pair also had to find a name for their new business. \u201cTeri-Lynn came up with\u00a0F\u00eate<\/em><\/strong>, which is funny, because she doesn\u2019t speak a word of French! She thought it would sound good, because everyone knows the song\u00a0C\u2019est aujourd\u2019hui ta f\u00eate<\/em><\/strong>, which means today\u2019s your birthday. I thought it was a great idea.\u201d<\/p>\n F\u00eate<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0will feature up to 18 different flavours of ice cream, including 12 \u201calways\u201d and two to four rotating flavours.<\/p>\nF\u00caTE<\/strong><\/a><\/h1>\n
