On November 25, 2024, the Rural Municipality of Somerset announced the successful completion of a major project that will have a direct impact on the quality of life of its residents. These renovations were made possible thanks to the generous support of PrairiesCan, through funding from the Francophone Economic Development Fund for the Prairies (FDÉFP), administered by the CDEM.

Renovation of the Community Hall Kitchen

The Somerset Community Hall, a central gathering place for locals, recently underwent a complete kitchen renovation. This project, which is essential to improve the conditions for hosting collective events and activities, will allow the municipality to offer more efficient and modern catering services for the many local events, community meals and other social events that are organized there.
The funds have been used to acquire modern kitchen equipment, replace brushed aluminium worktops, optimize space for more functional use and ensure better health safety. This initiative will also allow the community to benefit from a better equipped kitchen for the preparation of meals during social events, associations or shared meals, thus strengthening conviviality and community ties.

Acquisition of Bouncy Castles for Children

As part of its commitment to promote family leisure moments, the municipality has also purchased bouncy castles. This equipment will be used at birthday parties, community events and special activities for the youngest. Children will be able to enjoy fun and safe facilities, promoting their development and wellbeing while creating a festive environment for all.

Essential Support from CDEM through the FDÉFP

This project was made possible thanks to the support of  CDEM, which made it possible to finance the renovation work and the purchase of the equipment necessary for its completion. The FDÉFP is a fund whose specific objective is to promote and financially support projects designed and carried out by and for the Francophone communities of the prairies of Western Canada.

MarieCécile Alvarez, Manager of the FDÉFP at CDEM, underlined the importance of these projects for the development of small rural communities: CDEM is pleased to be able to support the municipality in this process of improving local infrastructure. These investments enrich the offer of services to the community, while contributing to the wellbeing of the inhabitants.”

Fruitful Collaboration for the Future

The community of Somerset would like to warmly thank PrairiesCan and CDEM for their financial support and commitment to local development. This project demonstrates the community‘s desire to bring residents together through convivial moments and to strengthen the services offered to the population.
