CDEM offers free employability programs specifically designed to help French-speaking job seekers find and maintain employment. Each program helps you develop critical employability skills such as how to write a résumé and prepare a cover letter. You also learn techniques that will help you succeed in your job interview and refine your job search.

Our services

  • Complimentary bus tickets to facilitate your transportation (by appointment only)

Our main eligibility criteria

  • Be 15 years of age or older
  • Have a valid social insurance number
  • Reside in Manitoba
  • Be actively looking for a job

Destination Emploi

This 16-week training session (five weeks of theory and an 11-week practicum) is for participants aged 15-30 years old who will receive minimum wage throughout the session. Here, you learn not only how to build a résumé but also how to prepare for the job market. You learn about workplace etiquette, how to interview well, and how to be a model employee. You also take part in all sorts of workshops, for example, a work safety training session led by Safe Workers of Tomorrow and financial management sessions. In addition, you’ll do mock job interviews with people from outside CDEM in order to be better prepared. Those who complete the program go on to find a job themselves. The program boasts a success rate of over 85%!

Eligibility criteria

  • Ability to speak French
  • 15 to 30 years old
  • Unemployed or working on average less than 20 hours/week
  • Not currently enrolled in a secondary, university, or college-level program
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident status
  • Not currently receiving Employment Insurance benefits
  • Availability for training from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday* schedule subject to change.

ProAction: Structured Mentoring Program

Are you a highly-skilled bilingual immigrant? You could benefit from the Structured Mentoring Program, a career coaching service designed specifically to support companies and facilitate your integration in Manitoba!

  • Training and job coaching for highly qualified French bilingual newcomers.
  • Salary subsidy for each recruited candidate participating in the Program.
  • Follow-up of new hires 2 hours per week by an in-house Mentor during the first 16 weeks of their employment contract.

Emploi pour tous

Our job-search assistance program is geared to Canadians, permanent residents, refugees, asylum-seekers and international students over the age of 30 looking for work. We help clients build a solid résumé, write a cover letter and prepare for a job interview. We also show you how to refine your job search and put you in contact with potential employers. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in 6-week internships paid at minimum wage.

Eligibility criteria

  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, refugees, asylum seekers or university students*
  • Ability to speak French
  • 30 years old or more
  • Looking for work
  • The criteria differ from program to program and some programs may have more requirements.

Integration Employment

This personally tailored employability service is for people who have difficulty performing daily tasks and working independently. The program consists of 9 weeks of work experience paid at minimum wage. Clients receive job-shadowing services to help them integrate into their workplace.

Eligibility criteria

  • Ability to speak French
  • 15 years old or over
  • Dealing with one or more obstacles to employability
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
  • Not currently receiving Employment Insurance benefits

Passeport emploi

This program aims to help permanent residents, refugees and asylum seekers integrate into the labour market by showing them how to write a resume, cover letter and share employment opportunities. You will be placed with our employment counselor for one-to-one meetings with a flexible program duration. The main objective of Passeport Emploi is to train you with the right tools so that you can find work in the Manitoba labour market.

Pre-departure services

Resume writing, job search assistance, and workshops that help newcomers better understand the Canadian work culture, those are just some of the services that are offered to newcomers and permanent residents before they arrive in Canada. These services are meant to help you be more proactive in your search for employment once you land in Canada.

Envol emploi

The objective of this training is to enter French-language schools to work with young newcomers from grades 10 to 12 to prepare them for the job market. We teach students employability skills to enable them to succeed and gain self-confidence while looking for a job. Envol Emploi teaches you how to write a CV and cover letter and offers many workshops such as conflict resolution in the workplace and how to prepare well for a successful interview and getting the job.

Job Fair

Our job fair Espace Emploi offers job seekers interviews with employers looking for workers. The interviews are conducted in a speed-dating fashion with potential employers that are carefully selected by CDEM to give participants the best possible chance of finding jobs that match their skills set. CDEM holds its job fairs twice a year, one in the spring, the other in the fall.
