Sod-turning marks the beginning of the new St. Laurent Municipal Museum

St. Laurent, September 7, 2022

The Rural Municipality of St. Laurent participated today in a sod-turning ceremony that officially marked the start of the renovation of the old city hall and construction of the new St. Laurent Municipal Museum.

These major renovations include the restoration of the exterior facades, installation of new floors, ceilings, and a furnace with a modern heating and air conditioning system. Key members of the community will coordinate the creation of the museum experience.

“This project is important for the community of St. Laurent, helping us commemorate the rich history of our municipality by restoring this historic building. The new museum will enhance the region’s tourism offerings and attract more visitors to St. Laurent,” explained Cheryl Smith, Reeve of the RM of St. Laurent.

This year, the Rural Municipality of St. Laurent received funding of $70,000 for this project as part of the Pan-West Francophone Economic Development Fund/Fonds de développement économique francophone de l’Ouest canadien (FDEFO), administered by the Economic Development Council for Manitoba Bilingual Municipalities (CDEM) and funded by Canada Economic Development for the Prairies (PrairiesCan).

The Rural Municipality of St. Laurent would like to acknowledge the support of the Government of Canada, the Province of Manitoba, CDEM, and Francofonds.
